Maternity Photographers on Oahu/ Sunset Session on the Beach/ M & M

Writer: Rachelle WinklerRachelle Winkler

This is the second time I've had the privilege to work with M. The first time was for a 'Mommy and Me' session with her son, and that was just so much fun! M and her son C were just the cutest thing; such a wonderful bond between the two of them. And when I have a great connection with a client, I'm always sad to see them go, but I always hope that we get to meet up again. Whether or not it's for another shoot, or just to catch up with life. Whatever the reason, I'm always hoping for the best!

So I'm sure you understand how super duper excited I was when M reached out to me again and asked if I could be her Oahu photographer, but this time, for a maternity session. AAAHHH!!!! WHAT?!?!? I was so happy to hear that their family was growing!!!

And on a selfish note, God must've been listening to me because as I told M, just a few days before she reached out to me, I thought to myself: "It's been a long time since I did a maternity shoot, and I sure miss shooting bellies and beautiful mamas-to-be, to I sure hope I get a maternity inquiry in my inbox soon!" And walah! M reaches out to me. God is great!

I've heard about her love, M, but never met him in person- until their maternity session, of course. M brought her son with her, and M brought his daughter. Baby girl on-the-way is their first child together, officially making them a family of five. They were the cutest together, and you could absolutely feel the love between M & M. They could not stop smiling at one another; they were so adorable!

Since M chose a nature feel for her first session with me, she decided to do a beach backdrop at sunset for this one. DONE and DONE! Since M's daughter didn't know me, and fat chance that C remembers me, I knew I had my work cut out for me. I wasn't sure what kind of response I was going to get with them if I asked them to do things for me. It also didn't help that both kids were very energetic, needed to burn off some steam during the session, and fed off each other. So I had to be strategic with the shoot while keeping a couple of things in mind:

  1. Capture as many candid and posed shots as possible, especially since this was the first family photos for them and

  2. Don't let mom and dad stress out

We started with family poses and candids. Whenever the kids would lose interest, I'd let them play on the sand at close range while I captured photos of mom & dad together. When kids required attention from mom or dad, I would send dad to them and take shots of mom. When the kids would play, I would randomly capture some shots of them before going back to mom & dad. From time to time, they'd be curious with what we're doing and eventually wander back to us, and when those opportunities appeared, I'd take advantage and snag more family photos. Bouncing back and forth to kids... family... parents... mommy until the sun was done setting and the session ended!

It was a workout (always is, lol), but we sure did capture many beautiful moments. Don't you agree???

Congratulations again, M & M. So excited for your next family chapter!!!
